What is AVID?

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college preparatory elective class that can be beneficial for all students, but specifically targets students in the academic middle; many of our AVID students may be B, C or even D students prior to entering the program. AVID acts as a support system for students who take rigorous courses, as all of our AVID students are required to take at least one honors course and maintain at least a C average in all of their courses. The class meets every day and focuses on organization, note-taking, higher order questioning, critical thinking, and test-taking skills.  AVID is not a remedial program and requires students to complete extra work, in many instances.
